Refractometer is a laboratory device use to measure the brix percentage which is used for analysis of sugarcane sucrose level and percentage. There are many applications of refractometer to measure different parameters. We are discussing here about the steps for taking the brix value of sugarcane.

how does refractometer works?

In sugarcane the level of sugar or sucrose is different in each plant so it is obvious to select a plant with good sugar percentage. For this purpose refractometer is used.

Procedure to use Refractometer

• First of all take sugarcane stems which you wants to analyze.
• After that cut the sugarcane from upside, middle and from bottom. 
• After that squeeze the cane to extract the juice on refractometer lens.
• And then close the refractometer head and observe the ratings through the viewing lens.
• Do this for all samples and then get the average of all three samples.
• This would be your brix value.
• After taking the readings, make sure to clean the prism before taking another value.
