Making a layout is not very difficult especially if you are good at maths and statistics but if you are not... then it can be tricky because you don’t know how to apply all treatments equally and how many replications would be enough for this.

The Best way is to use Modern method using a Computer Program 
There is a special software which is made for helping breeders to make field layouts for different experimental designs like CRD, RCBD and Latin Square etc.

The Software is Called R-Studio 
It is a Free Software which you can download from the internet. R Studio is basically made for many statistical purposes and to make field layout for different designs is one of them.

How to make field layouts using R-Studio?

To make the layouts for different designs like CRD , RCBD and Latin Square
  • Open New project in R Studio and write  the number of treatments and replications according to the commands provided by R Studio (you can also search online for these easy commands)
  • Then install the package “agricolae” from tools > installation package > write the name of package which is agricolae 
  • It will install all the layouts design for the field experiment.
  • Then you can choose which type of layout you want to create.
  • For example, if you want to create CRD design layout, then you have to write this command “design.crd(treatments, replications, randomisation = T) 
  • In above command, you have to write the number of replications and all treatments name in inverted commas and separated by normal commas
  • When you execute this command it will make the layout which will tell which treatment should apply to which replication in which plot.
So you can extract the layout in excel or in other formats and then you can easily make the field plots according to that layout.
This method is very easy and helpful for all persons who want to make field layouts for agriculture experiments.
